My Review:

This is Book One in the Vampire Coalition series. All in all this was a good novella. I liked Ethan and Brianna as a couple and I enjoyed Ethan's relationship with his brothers. The idea was good too. Vampires are born, not made but they are not in control of their soul until they find their mate, who keeps his soul and calls out to him to find her and become one. Usually vampires find their mates before they are 100, but not always. Some of the vamps become fallen and dangerous when they haven't found their "one".
Ethan's mate finally calls out to him and he is well past the age when male vampires are mated. Brianna calls out to him, scared, because she feels an evil presence. Her life force is fading and Ethan has a hard time finding her so he needs help from his brothers.
As I said, this was a good novella, but it could have been better fleshed out into a longer story. I felt the scene fighting the fallen was rushed as was the epilogue. The love scenes weren't as hot as I thought they would be considering the 18+ warning. What saved the story for me were the likable characters. The brothers get their stories told in the series and they are similar in length, which can keep a good idea from becoming a great one.

Ethan Hale is a vampire with a mission. Together with his three brothers and a few other unmated members, he fights with The Vampire Coalition to protect humans from fallen vampires. His life is fairly simple. If he has a problem...he solves it. If it's an evil problem...he kills it. But his uncomplicated life is about to end when his mate unexpectedly calls him to her.

Brianna Cole is weak, her life force fading away. She thinks she is suffering from a rare form of leukemia. Little does she knows that her illness is much more complicated. She's dying because she has not united with her vampire mate and given him his soul that she has been guarding since birth.

Ethan finds Brianna and knows he needs to convince her to mate or watch her die. He's waited for her for five hundred years and he has no intention of letting her go, but she is not in any shape for the dominate, volatile mating ceremony with a vampire. He will have to win the race against time to strengthen Brianna and a battle with a stalking fallen to claim his mate. He is also at war with his mating instincts that make him burn to dominate and conquer her. But Ethan is determined, and the stubborn vampire will do whatever is necessary to possess his soul bonded mate...forever.

  1. I had a few issues with it as you can see. :) I'm a little surprised you didn't notice what I did.

  2. I noticed the Feehan similarity, but it didn't bother me as much. I liked the characters okay enough. It was just a good short read. It wasn't great, but okay for a free read. I don't think I would read the others unless they were free or reduced. They are too short.

    1. It would drive me crazy to read another.

  3. It seems we were all on the same page about this book and happy it was free.
