Excerpt & Giveaway for HIS LAST RODEO by Claire McEwen VT May 1st thru 12th!

Back in the saddle again…

HIS LAST RODEO
Sierra Legacy #4
Claire McEwen
Releasing May 1, 2017
Harlequin Superromance

Tyler Ellis catches Kit Hayes completely off guard when he swaggers back home and into the bar she manages. Since high school, he's been a champion rodeo star…a notorious playboy…and now, apparently, a bar owner. She accepts his offer of a hefty bonus and helps him transform the place because she's desperate to escape their tiny town in the Sierras. She doesn't expect him to work this hard beside her. Where's the cocky cowboy he's supposed to be? Instead she discovers he's still the sweet, genuine young man she once knew. And so much more…including a threat to the adventurous life she craves.

Kit glanced at his towel in horror. “Use the lint-free kind.” She handed him a towel from the stack on the shelf over the sink. “Jeez, you are green, aren’t you?”

Green at this,” Tyler admitted. “But rumor has it I’m a pretty quick study.”

Well, I guess we’ll find out if the rumors are true,” she teased. “It’s your first Friday night, isn’t it?”

It sure is.” He tried to smile, but it felt a little weak. “I’m looking forward to it. But I’ve got a few nerves.”

You should. You have no idea what you’re doing.” Her intoxicating combination of sass and mischief had the glass slipping out of his hand, so he had to hustle to catch it.

Nice reflexes,” she murmured. “Maybe there’s hope for you yet.”

If you help me out tonight, there is. I can pour a pint—”

Barely.”

“—and measure out a shot. But if I get anything more complicated than that, I’m toast.”

You don’t know your cocktails?”

Don’t drink ’em myself. I’ve been reading recipes, but I’m more of a hands-on learner.” A nice way of saying that half the words he read made no sense. He glanced hopefully in her direction. “I just need a good teacher.”

You want me to train you? You won’t be embarrassed?”

When you rodeo, you learn by falling on your ass in front of hundreds of people. This can’t be more humiliating than that.”

She studied him from underneath her thick black lashes. “What’s in it for me?”

A boss who’s not totally incompetent?”

Her slow smile could melt metal. “But that could be kind of fun to watch.”

No shit-show is fun to watch for long. Plus I saw you with those customers. You pretend to be all tough, but you have a soft spot for the lost and lonely. I’m part of that club right now.”

You?” She laughed, soft and bitter. He’d give a lot to know what put that resentment in her soul. “Not the words I’d ever use to describe someone like you.”

Someone like me will pay you a training stipend. A hundred extra bucks each night.”

Now you’re trying to buy my help?” She scrubbed the pint glass in her hand with extra vigor. “Not everything can be bought, you know. Loyalty, for example.”

I’m not asking for your loyalty, though that would be nice,” Tyler said. “I’m trying to treat you like a professional. You have years of experience. I have none and I need to learn. So I pay you extra to share your expertise with me. It’s only right.”

Fine,” she said quietly. “I’ll do it. But you have to be willing to move fast and do what I say.”

I’m yours to command,” he said, liking the flush creeping up her cheeks at the tiny innuendo.
“And I appreciate the help.”

She grabbed a stack of dry glasses. “Well, let’s get going then. It’s getting loud out there, which means it’s getting busy.”

They rounded the corner and Tyler was amazed to see a crowd that stretched almost to the door. A quick scan revealed a collection of some of the most rugged-looking folks he’d ever seen in one place. Bikers in leather, ranch hands in hats, jeans and bowlegs. Women in tight T-shirts and big hair. Kit glanced over her shoulder. “Welcome to the Dusty Saddle. Hope you’re ready to earn your spurs.”

SAVED BY THE FIREFIGHTER by Rachel Brimble- Review, Excerpt, & Giveaway on Virtual Tour

How can she forgive him for what he didn't do?

SAVED BY THE FIREFIGHTER
Templeton Cove #6
Rachel Brimble
Releasing Nov 1st, 2016
Harlequin Superromance

How can she forgive him for what he didn't do?

Photographer Izzy Cooper feels as frozen as her pictures. Trent Palmer might be the hottest firefighter in Templeton Cove, but she can never face him again. Not after he failed to save her brother. But when they're forced together by a calendar shoot, the sparks between them are undeniable.

Izzy knows it's not fair to blame Trent for the tragedy, but opening herself up to loss again isn't something she's prepared to do, no matter how determined Trent is to show her that pain is part of life and that love—their love—can make any suffering bearable.

SAVED BY THE FIREFIGHTER is a strongly emotional and realistic look at the grieving of heroine Izzy Cooper when her firefighter brother is killed on the job. I've never read a book by Ms Brimble before and I am glad I was given the chance to read this poignant tale.
It's been three months since the death of her brother Robbie, but Izzy isn't coping well. She had been dating his friend Trent, but broke things off in her grief. She also pushed her best friend Kate away as well. Instead of reaching for those closest to her, she preferred to wallow in anger and the unfairness of her loss.
Trent tries to be there for her because he cares for Izzy, but even he is beginning to wonder if he should move on. Izzy blames him even though he wasn't at the scene. She knows its not right or fair, but her feelings are torturing her. Trent convinces her to at least visit Kate for support. She also agrees to work on a calendar shoot for a good cause which will keep Trent in contact with her.
Izzy is a frustrating and yet relateable character. We all grieve in different ways and she is protecting herself from ever having to lose someone again. Trent is a wonderfully patient and kind man who loves Izzy and finally convinces her that its time to move on and live again. This was a touching story and tells how lucky Izzy was to have someone like Trent who wouldn't give up on her.

She carefully climbed down the rocks, one hand steadying her as she made her slow descent. Trent waited, needing to know she was safe on the sand before he could leave.
He wanted to protect his family and loved ones––to never fail someone again as he’d failed his baby sister. In Izzy, he saw his future. Why her, he wasn’t sure he could ever explain, but she mattered. Deeply.
Yet, with every day that passed, she slipped further away from him and he wished to God it didn’t hurt so much.
He briefly closed his eyes before opening them again, ready to walk on. Walk away. He glanced in her direction once last time as she leapt from the final rock, her hand protectively clasped around the camera at her breasts. Looking up, she held up a finger toward him as though asking him to wait for her. Surprise turned to pathetic relief as she jogged across the sand, her long blonde hair swinging back and forth in its ponytail. As she got closer, the more Trent tensed.
It had been over a week since he’d seen her. The beach party a bigger disaster than he could’ve ever anticipated.
She came up the steps toward him, tucking some fallen hair behind her ear. He noted the way she tried to smile for him, but it didn’t quite meet her eyes. “Hi.”
He pushed his hands into the pockets of his work trousers. “Hi.”
Slightly out of breath, she exhaled through pursed lips and stared into his eyes. “I think I owe you an apology.”
She might as well as said she loved him. The pleasure that jolted through him probably wouldn’t have been any less powerful. He dragged his gaze from hers to look blindly toward a spot over her shoulder. “For what?”
For the way I spoke to you at the beach last week.” She sighed. “Won’t you at least look at me? You know apologizing doesn’t exactly come as second nature to me.”
He turned. The trepidation and pleading in her gaze teemed with the blush at her cheeks, tugged at his chest. “I get it, Iz. It’s fine.”
What do you get?”
You need to blame me for Robbie’s death. You’ll only ever look at me and see a firefighter now. The man who couldn’t save your brother. You’ll never just see me. A guy who really likes you.”
