THE TROUBLE WITH MISTLETOE by Jill Shalvis

Hi Readers. It's the start of the holiday season. A wonderful and cheerful time of year, but it can also be a stressful time as well. Be sure to reward yourself with some "me" time. What better way to pamper yourself during this busy time of year than snuggling up with a cozy blanket, something warm to drink and enjoying that new Christmas story you've been dying to read. My recommendation, THE TROUBLE WITH MISTLETOE by Jill Shalvis. It's book 2 in the Heartbreaker Bay series and filled with laughs and sassy romance.

If she has her way ...

Willa Davis is wrangling puppies when Keane Winters stalks into her pet shop with frustration in his chocolate-brown eyes and a pink bedazzled cat carrier in his hand. He needs a kitty sitter, stat. But the last thing Willa needs is to rescue a guy who doesn’t even remember her ...

He’ll get nothing but coal in his stocking.

Saddled with his great-aunt’s Feline from Hell, Keane is desperate to leave her in someone else’s capable hands. But in spite of the fact that he’s sure he’s never seen the drop-dead-gorgeous pet shop owner before, she seems to be mad at him ...

Unless he tempers “naughty” with a special kind of nice ...

Willa can’t deny that Keane’s changed since high school: he’s less arrogant, for one thing—but can she trust him not to break her heart again? It’s time to throw a coin in the fountain, make a Christmas wish—and let the mistletoe do its work ...

I love this time of year and love to read Christmas stories. Long ones, short ones, they make me happy and keep me enjoying the hectic holiday season. THE TROUBLE WITH MISTLETOE is a wonderful way to start the holiday season off. It is full of the promise of second chances and it truly warms the heart one moment and had me roaring with laughter the next.
Keane and Willa are the original odd couple. At first, he comes off as arrogant as he needs to have someone to take care of his aunt's demon cat. Arriving at Willa's pet shop, he is instantly attracted to her, but she doesn't seem to like him much. In his arrogance, he doesn't even remember that he  knew her in high school or that he broke her heart. He does know that he is attracted to her now.
Willa is a quirky fun character and easily one of my favorite heroines this year. Let down by the foster care system, she could have been a totally different person. Instead, she is fun, loving, and has the most generous heart. She reaches out to teens who were in similar circumstances as she was and offers them a job and friendship. It's no wonder that the people in town care about her.
Willa wants to hold a grudge, but the sexy Keane can't stop flirting with her and wanting to get to know her. As the story progresses, you get to see the layers of Willa and Keane, and the similarities of their less than happy childhoods. They grow close and boy, do they have chemistry! I loved the banter between them. The scenes with Keane and the grumpy cat were hysterical.
This story has it all going for it. Snappy dialogue, second chances, sparkling chemistry, animals, friendship and a great couple that deserve happiness if they can only move on from their pasts. It is a sweet fun-filled romance which truly brings that warm and joyful happiness of the holidays, and Jill Shalvis delivers another great read. Enjoy!
