My October Reading Challenge: Read A Guilty Pleasure Book

A Haunted Vintage Mystery #4

It’s time for this vintage fashion expert to put on her detective hat . . .

As the owner of It’s Vintage, Y’All in Sugar Creek, Georgia, Cookie Chanel has agreed to share her expertise with author Juliana McDaniel. But on her way to town, Juliana is shot dead, and that was all she wrote. Cookie picks up the thread of the story with help from her psychic cat and a couple of inquisitive ghosts. To unmask this killer, she’ll have to lift the lid on family secrets and hidden motives—because she might wind up getting capped herself if she doesn’t cloche this case . . .

I am a romance reader and read it in most sub-genres, so sometimes I take a break and read my guilty pleasure of cozy mystery. You might have guessed this since my pick is the second cozy that I have reviewed this month.
I do have certain requirements for them. Most of them have paranormal elements and feature vintage clothes, food, bookshops and maybe a ghost or two. I am addicted to the covers and the titles that have double meanings or a play on words. And most of the heroines run their own shop, bookstore, or are librarians. And most of all, they have a romance element, too. Of course, most cozies deal with the two or more men (usually one a cop) being interested in the amateur sleuth heroine trope, but it is what it is. Not a favorite with me, but I am a slightly biased romantic.
HAUNTED IS ALWAYS IN FASHION is the fourth book in the series with heroine Cookie Chanel who operates a vintage clothing boutique. She is psychic and the ghosts of murder victims come to her to encourage her to help solve their death. I like her character, she has a knack for crime solving and it is fun watching her trying to deal with the ghosts talking to her that no one else can see and hear. She has a cat named Wind Song who seems to be psychic too.Cookie is dating a cop named Dylan and she knows that if they get serious, she will have to clue him in on her gift. Cookie usually is in the thick of things, but doesn't come across as TSTL like some of the other heroines of this genre. Dylan is refreshing because he's not sullen like others cops in cozies and though he is protective, he doesn't put Cookie down for her sleuthing.
This story deals with the murder of a woman who was on her way to meet Cookie and ask her about vintage clothing. Her ghost comes to Cookie and it seems that there is a lot of interest in a vintage hat that was in the victim's possession. The police have the hat, but that doesn't stop someone from breaking into Cookie's shop.
The story is entertaining and moves at a brisk pace. It has plenty of suspects and some amusing light-hearted moments as Cookie deals with her ghostly  crime solving "assistants". I enjoyed the humor and the small town feel. And yes, there is another cute guy interested in Cookie. It was a quick read and another fun way to spend an afternoon. I am looking forward to reading more books in this sassy cozy series.

This book is releasing November 29th and is available for Pre-order.
