Book Club Thursday: Review & Giveaway

Hi Readers! It's time for Book Club Thursday. Besides our weekly review, we are also having a GIVEAWAY! It was my turn to pick a topic and our theme is Revenge of the Nerd. Being a kid is hard enough, but nerds can have it worse. So the best revenge for a nerd whether male or female is to grow up successful and turning the heads of the opposite sex.
To start things off, our review is GETTING OUT OF HAND by Erin Nicholas. A few months ago, she and author Jennifer Bernard paired up their series in the book GETTING WOUND UP. I have been reading Ms Bernard's books for years, so this gave me the opportunity to try the Sapphire Falls series by Ms. Nicholas. It was later in the series, so after I read it (which I enjoyed) I read a couple more in the series that I already owned. So I finally went back to where the series started with Getting Out Of Hand.

For those interested in starting the series, GETTING OUT OF HAND is currently free.

Sapphire Falls, Book One

Genius scientist Mason Riley can cure world hunger, impress the media and piss off the Vice President of the United States all before breakfast. But he’s not sure he can get through his high school class reunion.

Then he meets the new girl in town.

Adrianne Scott loves Sapphire Falls. The sleepy little town has been the perfect place to escape her fast-paced, high stress lifestyle. Her only plans now include opening her candy shop and living a quiet, drama-free life.

Until Mason Riley bids four hundred dollars just to dance with her.

Mason sure doesn’t look—or kiss—like a genius scientist geek. In fact, he makes Adrianne’s heart pound like nothing she’s ever experienced. Passion like this with a guy who travels the world and parties at the White House should probably be a red flag for a girl who wants a simple boring life.

Good thing no one falls in love in a weekend.

I am so glad that I finally got a chance to read the Sapphire Falls first story. Mason is fun and sexy and yet at other times he is like the absent-minded professor and lost in his work. He's smart, a good friend and boss, he's generous and confident. That is until he must return to the town where he grew up. You see his vulnerable side as the less than wonderful memories of his childhood come to light.
Adrianne left her high-stress life and fell in love with Sapphire Falls. I liked her plans to open a candy shop and help revitalize the town. The mayor Hailey is a pushy whirlwind who pressures Adrianne to make it so. Unfortunately, the conflict comes with who owns that area. Yes, Mason.
Who wouldn't be caught up in erotic thoughts with a man who paid a lot of money for one dance? I loved the spicy banter between Mason and Adrianne and I felt their chemistry.  Ms Nicholas had me falling for the characters and the town with her writing and GETTING OUT OF HAND made me feel good. And I know that I want to read more of books in this series.

Some lucky reader can win a paperback copy of THEN HE KISSED ME by Laura Trentham, book #2 of her Cottonbloom series. The hero Nate was a nerd as a kid, but he did grow up to be a mighty fine man!

Can two hearts come together in one divided town?

As a boy, Nash Hawthorne spent countless afternoons on the Louisiana side of Cottonbloom with Tally Fournette, wading in the river, peeling oranges and catching frogs. When illness stole his mother, Nash yearned to take Tally and run away—for good. Instead, he crossed the state line to live with his aunt. It was a short distance as the crow flies, but it swept him into a whole new world…

After Nash left, Tally managed to struggle through her own losses without him. But now that she’s crossed paths with him again—at Cottonbloom College, where the grown-up, gorgeous Nash teaches history—she is reminded of their cherished youthful connection…and an attraction that has only gotten stronger with age. Between Tally’s possessive ex and Nash’s snobbish aunt, no one thinks they belong together. In a town torn apart by old resentments and rivalries, can they find their way back to the life they once shared—and turn their long-lost dreams into a real and lasting love?
