Hi Everyone. All of us members of BCT are voracious readers, reading new authors as well as old favorites. Because there are so many wonderful stories out there, we found ourselves falling behind on a lot of our longtime favorite authors, especially when they are prolific and have more than one series going. That is why my fellow BCT bloggers pals and I are playing "catch up" this month with Christine Feehan. Once upon a time we read her books around the same time and couldn't wait to talk about them with each other, but now she has four different series going and that has made it difficult to do anymore. So we each picked a title from where we each left off. For myself, I picked CAT'S LAIR from The Leopard series. I've been able to keep up with this series because she doesn't write the stories annually. And shifters are sexy!
Inside The Covers:
Cat Benoit has finally escaped the past—and the man who was the source of her nightmares. She’s off the grid, underground but watchful, and creating a new life for herself in Texas, far from the torrid dangers of her native New Orleans. She’s safe. He’ll never find her this time. Cat has to believe that. It’s the only thing keeping her sane.
Yet she can’t escape the attention of Ridley Cromer, the instructor at the martial arts dojo where Cat takes lessons. She arouses the animal in Ridley—and something feral comes to life when their body heat rises. Cat is in no position to let her guard down with anyone, especially someone who could be endangered by her past. But Ridley has secrets of his own—secrets only Cat would understand. If she dares to trust him.
This is another good entry to the Leopard series. Cat is flying under the radar because she is on the run from the crazed man/ leopard that raised her since she was eleven named Rafe. He is also a ruthless drug cartel leader and has been waiting for Cat's leopard to emerge. Leopard shifters are rare, especially females.
Cat meets Ridley who discovers that she is a shifter, but he is not who she thinks he is and he hurts her with his betrayal. Deep down, his cat knows she is his mate, but he's going to have to grovel if wants to win her trust.
The cats live in a very violent world and even as there human self, they don't act as humans do when it comes to love. Cat does begin to trust "Ridley", but that is not always easy. She is younger than him and has lead a sheltered life. The males are macho and protective, and old fashioned in their ways of dealing with the women they love. They are also moody and overbearing, but a good one will fight to death to save his mate.
It's a good story with lots of action, romance, and sex. And more sex. I like Ms Feehan's stories, but she can be a little repetitive and the story could have been shortened by at least seventy pages. Cat was young, but smart, independent and brave with a lot of heart. Even near the climax of the story, she wished she could find the one decent molecule in Rafe because he was all the family she had. You also get to catch up with Jake Bannaconi and his Emma from previous books. I think fans of Ms Feehan will enjoy this story too!
I can't wait to see which series my fellow BCT members have chosen to "catch up" on. Don't forget to stop by.
