Hi. Welcome back to this weeks Book Club Thursday. This week on BCT, we are Catching Up! I bet all of you voracious readers out there know what it is like to watch your TBR pile bigger and bigger because of your favorite prolific writers and the new writers that have come to your attention. You read everyday, but it doesn't look like you have even made a dent. This week, my fellow bloggers and I have decided to Catch Up on author Brenda Novak. We are all at different places in this popular romance series, so why don't you join us and see where we are in the Whiskey Creek Novels.
For me, I missed the Christmas story THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS.
Inside The Book:
Just call her Christmas Eve…
Eve Harmon has always enjoyed Christmas, but this year it reminds her of everything she doesn't have. Almost all her friends are married now, and that's what Eve wants, too. Love. A husband and kids of her own. But the B and B she manages, and even Whiskey Creek, the small Gold Country town where she was born and raised, suddenly seem…confining.
Eve's worried that her future will simply be a reflection of her past. There's no one in the area she could even imagine as a husband—until a handsome stranger comes to town. Eve's definitely attracted to him, and he seems to have the same reaction to her. But his darkly mysterious past could ruin Eve's happily ever after—just when it finally seems within reach. And just when she's counting on the best Christmas of her life!
The Whiskey Creek series is a "small town" romance and it centers around a group of friends now in their 30's that have stayed close. These stories aren't as light-hearted as other small town series, but they still have romance and a lot of heart. Ms Novak also pens romantic suspense trilogies. THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS blends Whiskey Creek's Eve Harmon with Rex McCready, one of the characters from her suspense trilogy-Inside, In Seconds, and In Close.
Eve manages her parents B & B, The Little Mary Inn and has watched all her friends start of get married, leaving her feeling lonely as both Christmas and her 35th birthday come around. She has a one-nighter with Rex who is using an alias and told her that he was just passing through town. Circumstances keep the pair running into each other. Rex has had a hard life and feels he doesn't have anything to offer a woman, but he is intrigued by Eve. Unfortunately, there is a dangerous cloud in his life.
I liked how these two lonely people ended up taking a chance on each other, especially with the help of good friends and family. I do have a bone to pick with one of the characters in the story, but I'm sure Ms. Novak will resolve it in a way that only she can in the future.
