Book Club Thursday: We Review- THE UNLEASHING by Shelly Laurenston

Hi Readers. Thank you for joining us this week at Book Club Thursday. We've each got new reviews for you this week of THE UNLEASHING by Shelly Laurenston.

THE UNLEASHING
 Call of Crows Book #1

WINGING IT

Kera Watson never expected to face death behind a Los Angeles coffee shop. Not after surviving two tours lugging an M16 around the Middle East. If it wasn’t for her hot Viking customer showing up too late to help, nobody would even see her die.

In uncountable years of service to the Allfather Odin, Ludvig “Vig” Rundstrom has never seen anyone kick ass with quite as much style as Kera. He knows one way to save her life—but she might not like it. Signing up with the Crows will get Kera a new set of battle buddies: cackling, gossiping, squabbling, party-hearty women. With wings. So not the Marines.

But Vig can’t give up on someone as special as Kera. With a storm of oh-crap magic speeding straight for L.A., survival will depend on combining their strengths: Kera’s discipline, Vig’s loyalty… and the Crows’ sheer love of battle. Boy, are they in trouble.

My Review:

What can I say, it's Shelly Laurenston? If you are looking for something homespun and sweet, you should move on. This is not what you're looking for. If your looking something snarky and violent and crazy, then this is it. Did I mention there are some hot Vikings in it too?
So what happens when you are killed in an alley after serving your country in the marines? Kera finds out when the scruffy homeless man takes her to a place she never knew existed. A place where a clan of female warriors called The Crows live. A place where the women are tough, bad-tempered and NUTZ! And when Mr. Scruffy cleans up, he is really from a male clan called the Ravens who sometimes work with the "ladies." Vig has connections to the Norse gods and his sister is a Valkyrie.  The crows mete out justice to some bad people around the world. They are enforcers who usually kill the bad guys.
Joining the Crows is a little hard on "New Girl" Kera. Being a former marine, she is orderly and tries to improve how things are run with her new sisters in arms and comes complete with a clip board. And a heart and a conscience.
The story was a bit slow at first, but then the pace picked up and so did the laughs. There are a lot of people in this book, but I soon found myself involved in their crazy way of life. I loved Kera and her clip board and Vig and Brodie Hawaii. (read the book). The cast of characters are a riot in their dysfunctional way of doing things. There is some Norse mythology, and magic and creatures and...so much more. (read the book)
I was sad when Ms Laurenston said her shifter series was coming to an end. Then she posted the cover to this story last fall and I thought this looked different and I waited for THE UNLEASHING to finally appear. The wait was long, but worth it. So now I have to wait some more for the next installment, the girls have to break Betty out of an asylum. So why don't you read the book and wait with me?

THE UNLEASHING is available now as an E-book and in Print

  2. I LOVED it. It was so much fun, but then again I think maybe perhaps it was more UF than typical paranormal
