BLURB:

By day, she is Lady Georgiana, sister to a duke, ruined before her first season in the worst kind of scandal. But the truth is far more shocking-in London’s darkest corners, she is Chase, the mysterious, unknown founder of the city’s most legendary gaming hell. For years, her double identity has gone undiscovered...until now.

Brilliant, driven, handsome-as-sin Duncan West is intrigued by the beautiful, ruined woman who is somehow connected to a world of darkness and sin. He knows she is more than she seems and he vows to uncover all of Georgiana’s secrets, laying bare her past, threatening her present, and risking all she holds dear...including her heart.

My Review:

I've been seeing lots of titles by Sarah MacLean as well as some beautiful covers, and when I read the blurb for this book, I thought I would give it a try. Am I glad I did! This story had me turning page after page and had me hooked from the first chapter to the end. I haven't been reading as many historical romances lately, but I will be adding Ms MacLean's books to my auto-buy list.
Lady Georgiana captured my attention by the striking cover of the heroine in pants and I became fascinated by her. Ruined by scandal in the eyes of the unforgiving, yet hypocritical Ton, she didn't cry and curl up in a ball. She built an empire for herself and her child with characters from the previous stories in the series. Now that her child is getting older, she doesn't want her to pay for parent's sins and is willing to sacrifice herself by rebuilding her image and try to be "forgiven" for her past by marrying a man with title. But then she meets Duncan West, creator of images in his paper that brought her ruin back to the mind of society again. Let the fireworks begin!
I love the misunderstandings, twists, turns and the mysteries in this story. And I love a heroine who uses her brain to get what she wants. Her love for her daughter is fierce as well. Together, she and Duncan have the Ton on it's collective ears.
I did not know that this was the final book of a series when I picked it, so I will have pretend the previous books are prequels when I order them. Even though I read out of order, the book fascinated me. For this reason, I wish I had known of them sooner because the Chase mystery identity  thread would have been more satisfying. Otherwise, I was really impressed with this story and if you are looking for a historical romance series, I would read them in order starting with A Rogue By Any Other Name which released in February, 2012. This is one of my favorite historical romances of the year!

  1. Every time I read an excerpt or blurb about this story, I say to myself, "Georgie, you better watch out . . ." I think she's going to be pleasantly surprised by what happens to her in this story. I, for one, am looking forward to discovering it the same time Georgie does! :-) Thanks for the post. jdh2690@gmail.com
